Teaching at Splash is all about sharing your knowledge and your passions with eager high school students on any topic you want! Origami, Kittens, Memes - any topic you're passionate enough to talk about for an hour is on the table! You have the freedom to choose your class topic and design your own lesson, as well as teach multiple classes or sections. If you have any questions about teaching or would like to discuss your ideas for a course, please don't hesitate to reach out! Additionally, we host optional activities, like our potluck event SplashZone and other teacher appreciation events. More info on these events will be sent to our teachers later.

What You Can Teach

You can pick any subject that fascinates you! Classes may be held in classrooms or on the quad. If you'd like some inspiration, MIT has extensive back catalogs, and Stanford has videos of some classes. Classes from our last program at Hopkins can be viewed here.

Teaching Multiple Classes

You may teach more than one class or more than one section as long as there are no scheduling conflicts. Teaching more sections will only increase your commitment during the day of the program, while additional courses will require more preparation.

Time Requirement

Teaching for Splash is a small time commitment (around five hours across the semester). Teachers will spend some time preparing for their course, completing CSC requirements, and teaching your course on the day of the program. Additional sections only require more time during Splash, while additional classes will require more time for preparation.

The Fine Print

We aim to create a safe place where kids can feel inspired and excited about learning. As such, you can’t exactly teach anything at Splash. Here are some examples of classes we do not allow:

- Classes that include activities that pose any sort of physical or mental danger to our students.
- Classes that are illegal, or that explicitly promote illegal activities (e.g. How to Deal Drugs 101).
- Classes that promote only a single viewpoint on a sensitive topic (e.g. a pro- or anti-abortion class).
- Classes that exist to advertise an outside organization, service, or product.
- Classes that gather data for outside research purposes of any kind.
- Classes that promote religious proselytization or disrespect a person’s religious beliefs.
- Classes that discriminate against students of a certain gender, race, or religion.
